The dative case of personal pronouns

To refresh your memory, the dative case is the indirect object of the sentence. It is often used with personal pronouns in the construction:

Russian:  [personal pronoun in the dative] + НАДО/НУЖНО + [infinitive].
English:   [personal pronoun] + HAVE TO + [verb].

Russian:  Мне надо идти.
English:   I have to go. (literally: To me it’s requred to go.)

As you can see in the example, the pronoun МНЕ occurs in the dative case. The dative case of personal prounouns must be memorized.
